  2. If you wish to get that "granular" then indeed you will need foreign languages; at least German and, if you do anything serious on the Eastern front Russian. Of course, Italian, Hungarian, Romanian are also desirable. Most Finnish materials will be available in English. DAK OOB and TOE is not so obscure as you seem to think, unlike the Russian OOB. From a wargaming perspective http://gregpanzerblitz.com/ seems quite good, and perhaps relies only on English language sources; he does include the works on which he has based his reconstruction of the OOB. I think the only "game changing" perspective would be to compare Luftwaffe and Regia Aeronautica airlift to North Africa with Demyansk and Stalingrad. What if there were no African campaign and thus all those airplanes? What if there were no Russian campaign and all those airplanes? North Africa was a propaganda sideshow for both Nazis and Britain. I don't think Hitler believed sufficient resources could be devoted to capturing Egypt, Suez, and Arab oil fields. So that is another question one could productively work: was German and Italian airlift sufficient for an army or army group sized operation. Clearly a corps or two were not enough and sealift was definitely unreliable.
