  1.  @yosh921  that sucks, I'm really sorry. If you speak German then you can research his units histories (Kriegstagesbuch) and also do a good genealogy search. The war wasn't That long ago and much was recorded. I would definitely start with his units histories and then look at any family or church records you or yours might have.

  2. One good sniper -- just one -- can in fact stop a batallion, namely by stopping the lead company of the battalion. It's not possible to coordinate the dozen snipers which would be required to stop an entire division. Using radios or such results in noise and electronic signals which lead to the sniper's elimination.

  3.  @yosh921  actual war veterans tend not to want to talk about the horrors of war. freinds getting turned into meat, starvation, lack of sleep, bugs, bullets, fear, kill or die, it's really horrible.
