As an example, ex-Muslim atheists need to be careful with their online presence, as there is a palpable risk to them and their families because of their ex-Muslim status. Now (obviously) every religion has its unhinged followers, but I don't see ex-Christian atheist YouTubers going out of their way to hide their face and name out of fear for their lives.

  19. I feel like Russia has a deep issue with its culture (how people behave) that constantly steers it towards authoritarianism. That's not a problem with "The Russian" in an ethnic sense, but moreso inherited behaviors that stick because of no real combined or motivated effort to change it. Russia experiences this in the form of military and government corruption/disinterest in public well-being, and an unfortunately long history of alcoholism. America suffers a similar apathy for change with its corporate corruption and conservative infrastructure (mostly non-renewable energy, car-focused transportation and city infrastructure, healthcare infrastructure, etc.), so 'deep cultural issues that people are generally apathetic towards changing' are not exclusive to Russia by any means.
