Objective truth about what ancient societies were thinking?
1
@Alexey_Selivanov Ah alright. Your wording was a little weird so I had to be sure you weren't trying to 'dog-whistle' to homophobes, so to speak.
1
I dunno if anyone is calling the ancient egyptians gay
1
Well gee I don't exactly see cats and dogs doing research on ancient human civilizations.
1
@user-vv1do1wg1j It's not that deep. It's a bunch of greedy corpos bending to what is safe and approved of by most of society so that they can seem like they're cool by pushing "civil rights", when they're actually just blending in with the cultural mood. If Christianity rose up tomorrow and society suddenly became homophobic again, corpos would just change up their advertising schemes and stop doing Pride Month on twitter. Don't blame a shadowy cabal of satanists; blame capitalism.

He's not the only YouTuber striving for historical accuracy, and what propaganda? Unless you count "hi please don't stone me to death cuz I think that guy is cute" as propaganda??
1
I don't think they care or even have the same understanding of race/identity politics as we do. Stop trying to own the lefties by white-knighting for an indigenous population that would laugh at both of us for having a conversation this pointless.
1
"LGetc" I mean, I figured everyone was cool with at least the B part of "LGBT+"?
1
so like are you homophobic or not cuz, genuinely, this comment reads like an unhinged rant sounds and i barely understood any of it

@ZaMonolith1986 OP seems to be arguing against the strawman claim that "ALMOST EVERYONE IN GREECE WAS A LITTLE GAY" with the ironclad position of "THERE WERE NEVER EVEN GAY PEOPLE EVER BEFORE MODERN TIMES!!!!" which is just as absolutist and braindead as the former (strawman) argument. Honk honk 🤡🤡
1
"RAAAAH I HATE IDENTITY POLITICS 🤬🤬🤬🤬" "Well as a black person... ☝🧐"
1
What?
1
The Bible is like my early iron-age Star Wars
1
And what would you call "degeneracy"? What standard are your judging by?
1
Neither were our african hunter/gatherer ancestors living on the Savanna tens of thousands of years ago. Ultimately, it doesn't really matter!

I love it when I, as a gay American, am represented by a Speaker of the House who believes that gay people are, "'sinful', 'destructive', and a 'deviant group'," and has said that, "abolishing 'discrimination' between 'heterosexual and homosexual conduct' would translate into support for pedophilia." What a swell guy who really makes me feel like a valued member of my society. :)
1
I mean if we all jump ship then yeah, those people will be "the LGBT community". But they aren't. They're a vocal minority of it lmao
1
It's a story, and people often interpret stories through the lens of their own experience. You, for example, clearly have military experience, which is why the interpretation of brotherly love is so much more intuitive to you. A gay person might read that story can come away with a more romantic interpretation of their relationship. While I do agree that your interpretation is the author's intention, there's also nothing wrong with taking a different interpretation of a fictional text for the sake of one's own enjoyment. As long as you make a distinction between the author's intention and your own personal "headcanon".

Unlike 17th century Europe, 17th century Japan was an island that was JUST getting access to the rest of the world (and also the island wasn't situated directly above africa).
1
Eh that's like going to a Star Wars video and telling people it doesn't matter because it didn't actually happen a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. We don't necessarily have to accept the truth of a text to have an understanding of its internal rules or universe. At least, that's the attitude I take going into these, and it honestly keeps me quite interested in this stuff, even though I don't believe it all happened.
1
@stevelemur6113 The sounds and symbols we use to refer to the context of an intense but non-romantic relationship between two individuals is "Platonic Relationship". Phrases change meanings over time, as I'm sure you know. Unless you don't and you use the word "bad" as a homophobic slur? Cuz the word "bad" used to refer to effeminate men.

Sir, this is a video about homosexuality in ancient greece
1
WOKE ROME. THEY WENT WOKE.
1
It's not that deep. Contemporary societies have always tried to project themselves onto ancient ones to try and fix their problems.
1
So is this supposed to be like "the gays are indoctrinating our kids!" or are you talking about conversion therapy?
1
He is trying his best to be historically accurate. If you want an example of a homophobic take on this subject, I recommend Leather Apron Club's videos on Greece and Rome. The difference between Metatron and LAC is that Metatron's content is predominantly about history, while LAC's content is predominantly about LGBT stuff. And like, it's not good coverage on LGBT stuff lol. Trust me, watch LAC and you'll understand why Metatron is being fair here
1
@estevacbanito If you surround yourself with homophobic content because you want to try and address it, sometimes you'll make assumptions going into a perfectly reasonable video. I've done this myself, unfortunately. People are not perfect, so the best thing we can do is try to politely inform them that they're misguided.
1
@ZaMonolith1986 Sorry, we aren't just gonna lay down and take homophobia (this video isn't homophobic). Especially when there's no good reason for it other than "BUH BUH BUT GOD SAID SOOOO"
1
@ZaMonolith1986 Holding a belief and existing in America doesn't make that belief harmless. In this country, you are guaranteed protections from legal action if you have an opinion that differs from that of the state, but that doesn't mean that everyone has to sit by and play nice when you hold a bigoted position. I notice that you're sitting here whining and stomping about your freedom of expression, but you have yet to justify your flimsy belief that being gay is immoral. Unless I've misunderstood you and you don't hold that position?
