The same could be said about alcohol, in fairness. I think this is less of a "weed" problem and more of a "hey we're the most stressed out we've ever been in our lives and our superiors want to take away the only thing that's keeping us from abject despair" problem. For the record, I'm not defending the fragging, nor am I defending the idea of being intoxicated while you're working (whatever your job may be), but I think seeing this and just saying "oh yeah its the weed" is a superficial take that won't help us solve the fundamental problem behind all of these fraggings: mental health.

You aren't profound, and you don't have a silent majority standing with you. Racial tensions and racially-motivated crimes are not okay, no matter who does it.

I agree, but the issue is a lot more complicated than that. A healthy person wouldn't kill someone because they woke them up too rudely, or because they got told to stop smoking. These people, just as much as the people they killed, are victims of their circumstances: the Vietnam War.

This is what happens when you draft people into a conflict that doesn't threaten their way of life. If they don't want to fight, forcing them to fight will degrade their mental health to the point where they find it appropriate to start fragging their superiors. We are VERY lucky that the US Military is a professional and volunteer military, today.

Should I just start being reductionist about white people? Would that make you realize this groupish thinking is stupid?

It sounds like you have a lot of political disagreements with the author, but honestly those books do sounds fascinating. Do you have anything specific in this video that you take exception to, or are you just going to vaguely refer to him being a "lib" and writing books on Climate Change for your devastating arguments against the very real phenomenon of fragging?

Imagine seeing the world in race-based teams. Bro, this is real life, not a Roblox server.
2
It's a good thing we don't do that anymore! I think we've learned that offensive armies do best when they are staffed with professional volunteers. I agree that drafting should only be used in cases of defense.

I feel like "hundreds of cases" is still too much. I never got the vibe that he was trying to sell this as something that happened super often, but this is a video about the subject matter. I think there are still important lessons to be learned about how drafting people can poorly affect the performance of a military. Trust me, I have a hair-trigger for detecting Russian misinformation, and this just ain't it. Please be careful that you don't accidentally write off valid criticism of our military as misinformation by the enemy.

The draft, honestly. There are a lot of white people who wanted nothing to do with this war, and still found themselves on the frontlines in Vietnam. Let's hope the draft never needs to come back.

@joco2362 Do you really believe that, or are you just saying it to be edgy?

Astonishing amount of racists in this comment section for literally no reason lmao

The Vietnam-Era is basically incomparable to the modern day. The only lesson that can be learned from these fraggings is that drafting is a bad thing, and we should probably worry about the mental health of our troops if we want to avoid them intentionally killing one and other.

This kind of mentality lead to PTSD-sticken vets being spat on and called "baby killers" when they came home after the most horrifying experience they'd ever had in their lives. How about we judge people by their actions, instead of painting a whole group with one brush, yeah?

@h.w.barlow6693 I can't even see my own comment so I have no idea what you're addressing lmao

Good bait :D

Stop being insane. We are not "in the beginning stages of WW3" because some dictators can't seem to play nice with their neighbors. Putin threatened to nuke us if we helped Ukraine. Then he threatened nukes if we sent HIMARS. Then it was if we sent ATACMS. Then it was if we sent the Abrams. Then it was if we started training pilots. Now he's kind of given up on the bit, because everyone realizes that he's a LIAR.

The US was dealing with a lot of racial tension in the 60s. It's not too surprising that stuff reared its ugly head over in Vietnam.
1
Don't look up why emmett till was hanged in the 50s lmao. Like I feel like the only reason you would invoke a famous case of white-on-black racial hate crimes, and then immediately compare it to the victim's father's misconduct, is because you're probably at least a teeny weeny little bit racist. Just a bit. As a treat!
1
I feel like killing someone for calling you a racial slur isn't racist. Certainly not a proportional response, but it's not like these guys are just going around and killing white people because they're white. Nor is it being done by all or most black people. This comment is more racist than the behavior you're describing lmao

Oh now I feel like a goofball for civilian-splaining military stuff to you. The second part of my other reply still stands though, imo

We got our "boom" in the 2010s. We might've had a boom after covid, but Russia decided to ruin decades of global piece, so now we're in another Cold War. Honestly unsure when the next "boom" will be.
1
Ooooohhhkkkaaaaay calm down gramps. I was super on board with you on the whole "uncovering lesser-discussed racial tensions", but then you took the nutjob route and started complaining about desegregation. I'm so glad that people like you don't have much time left.

Yes and no. Your superiors need to be hard on you in the military, because you are in the military. You aren't working the counter at your local fast food place--you are killing. If you can't handle a little hazing, how can they be sure you'll be ready to pull the trigger? That said, things were a lot harder back then for a few reasons. First and foremost, a lot of these people in the Vietnam War were draftees, not volunteers. They didn't choose to subject themselves to military life, but were made to by the US government. This, combined with a culture that cared a lot less about mental health, often put young adults in extremely stressful situations that would break the average person--and indeed those situations did. Your anger should be directed mostly at the government officials that allowed this to happen, and less so at the unfortunate victims of mental health breaks.
