I think that my only feedback is that he was not doing "whataboutism", you got that wrong, he was trying to do a hypothetical, and if you said to him in the hypothetical did the descendents have 10x less wealth and significantly worse income prospects TODAY then he may have understood that this is NOT just history but contemporaneous.
