its a rule of thumb based on major militarys, its actually a lot worse than that , beside the war on terror it has never been 1:6 going by the US military on all their wars, the average on dead/wounded for the Us military up to the war on terror, was as follows Dead/injured WW2 1-1,7 korea 1-2,8 Vietnam 1-2,6, Now operation iraqui freedom is the only one where the ratio was 1-7,3 but that was not major military actions but insurgence with bombs and so on something that is more likely to incur wounded rather than dead. Now for Russia we can look at Afghanistan where it was 1-2,3 and first Chechen war it was about the same, most modern war dont lose that many to cold and illness, if they are equiped, So how many russian have died been wounded the excat number wont be know for 50 years probably we still dont know the exakt number of dead in Chechnya, But the number of wounded is probably tthe normal 2,4 times the killed

@hrvojestanic1791 Dont know where you get your "data" from i got mine directly from the us military the department of defence, they counts it as follows Vietnam War 1964-1973 58,220Dead 153,303Wounded 5,283Amputated 1:2.6 vas ratio), Now for statistic purposes wounded are counted as anyone needing hospital aid, anyone getting a minor injury in the field that a corpsman can fix are not counted as wounded, since only those that are counted as battelcasulties are considered wounded for statistically purposes Or to qoute the Nato version
Wounded in action (WIA) describes combatants who have been wounded while fighting in a combat zone during wartime, but have not been killed. Typically, it implies that they are temporarily or permanently incapable of bearing arms or continuing to fight. Common combat injuries include second and third degree burns, broken bones, shrapnel wounds, brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, nerve damage, paralysis, loss of sight and hearing, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and limb loss
