  3. In terms of British politics the Republicans would be the right-wing of the Conservative Party, the Democrats the 'One Nation' wing of the Conservative Party. Even your Progressives within the Democrat Party are fairly centrist. I might, just, categorise them as social democrats, I certainly wouldn't call any of them socialists.

  10. I really don't understand what the problem is. Like most people if I want to be rude or antagonise someone, I have chosen to do so, otherwise we all try to learn how to pronounce people's names correctly, whether they prefer a short form or or not, and sometimes which short form. Using an alternative pronoun is just an extension of that, a common courtesy. My only problem would be if someone got pissy about it because I think it is only reasonable for them to recognise that it is something that they will have to explain a lot and that they will have to be forgiving of those who try to be polite but forget or make mistakes because the alternative pronouns are not a standard part of most people's lexis.

  11. You really don't get it, do you? Someone's sexual identity is something they have no choice over, it's an innate part of them. You can choose, or not, to join the NRA, there is absolutely nothing innate to a person in doing so. Your comparison demonstrates so little understanding that I shan't even go on to explain the concept of discrimination to you - it'd clearly be beyond your ken.

  16.  @sherrylovegood  It was the start of a spell of reading a huge range of serious classic literature for me, The Prince, Catch 22, One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovitch, that sort of thing. When I look back, we must have had a really well stocked scholl library as I read pretty widely.

However, I tend to believe that everyone has all the negative 'ist's and 'ic's to some degree - the difference is between those who reflect on their inner thoughts and their actions and seek to modify them for the better (hopefully before they have done any harm) and those who don't.
