He was able to starve her of funds so she couldn't get a good lawyer. And he would deliberately provoke her so he would win any court action, including getting the kids! Another issue totally overlooked in this analysis is the impact of losing a child. It sounds like she likely didn't get any psychological help but clearly this was needed. It also appears that her husband was way too busy to be there for her during that time.. or any time really. It seems to me he was controlling and manipulative and she was pushed over the edge, one day at a time.
