We in Canada delt with SARS too and still managed to mess this up. Our government sent many tons of PPE to China in early February and of course we were short when it hit hard here in March. Borders stayed open for months and we were scolded about being racist when anyone suggested we stop flights from China!!! We were told mask wearing wouldn't help and was problematic as people would adjust it often, thereby touching their face. That is a lie of course. The truth was the medical community couldn't even get what they needed because stock piles were not maintained as the Trudeau government cut funding. Basically everything we were told in Jan/Feb has been reversed resulting in a total lack of trust in all officials including medical advisors.

It's so much more difficult in a democratic country to impose lockdown and contact tracing. This has very little to do with knowledge or political will and has much more to do with the constitutional impediments. Add to that the profit motives of Pharma who prefer to keep a pandemic going in order to sell their expensive drugs and eventually a vaccine rather than promoting and using vitamins (C and D) as preventatives (and treatment in the case of IV C). There would be few customers that way.

@thankmelater1254 I agree with most of what you've stated except about Dr Tam. She was co-author of the post SARS report of 2006, wherein pandemic risk to long term care homes was very clearly outlined and a 4month supply of PPE was recommended for the homes and hospitals and more. The problem of part time revolving staff was stated too etc. She knew. My guess is she was directed on what to say by the PMO. They have experience in this after all, remember Wilson-Reybold?

I was naively very glad when Trudeau was chosen as Liberal leader because I assumed Harper would easily expose this idiot in debates etc. I totally underestimated his "star power". It's really embarrassing that voters would be fooled by him. I cannot stand listening or watching him speak as it reminds me of a highschool student pleased with having been chosen as the lead in the annual play. And he does it every day in his driveway.

Kudos to BC!! Here in Ontario, we have a large segment of the population that didn't follow social distancing and still does not. There are anti-black protests going on as we speak.. oh wait, Trudeau appeared in one, how exemplary!!
