So discovering how many cases exist makes the strategy of allowing the virus to run rampant wiser? Makes the early death of the elderly more palatable??

Of course you don't, those under 40 are only considering economics. But let's wait for you to reach 65 and bore us with your demands for better health care.

A successful vaccine for this is a pipe dream. Where's the HIV vaccine? Where's the vaccine for the common cold? I for one will not take a rushed vax that has so little "safety testing" for such a short period and relies on " post marketing surveillance" for it's large scale testing done directly on the population. Gardasil has done that and look at the unmitigated disaster that is!! Cervical cancer rates have soared since it came out as many young women develop a vaccine strain cancer and many more go into early menopause and worse.

I agree, I will never take such a rushed and not properly safety tested vaccine. They're going to do large scale testing of it, as they always do, on a population. They call this "post marketing surveillance". One fine example is HPV vaccine. WHAT A DISASTER!!

@ArnoldClarke I suggest you go out to a protest without a mask and afterwards go for a pint in a crowded bar. Remember to visit all your family. Do let us know how you're feeling in a week with this nonbacterial fear mongered microbe while you're desperately trying to catch your next breath 😉

When the vulnerable elderly with comorbidities in care homes die off, there definitely is savings. Especially if you cut corners on end of life care. And it's cheaper to keep everything open than provide wage subsidies for those forced into lockdown. Clearly Sweden was hoping for herd immunity or their strategy was to essentially do nothing. Regardless, we'll be able to judge by the body count in the end.
1
Our care homes have allowed thousands to die in place too Jarmila, open your eyes and don't be so smug.
1
No, USA got it completely wrong.
1
There's no way to know how far into this pandemic we are so assuming we are partially into a "first wave" is an uneducated guess.
1
Herd immunity may prove to be an elusive goal as no one knows how long a person's immunity may last, nor how long the virus will circulate.
1
You are the hoax and scam
1
Those over the age of 60 view this virus far more seriously. Clearly you are younger.
1
@pseudomodo9866 Of course your age is the defining factor. Younger people are selfish and invincible, we all know that. What New Zealand, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Vietnam accomplished is exemplary and I don't see those countries suffering additional psychological or economic calamity.
1
Most European countries do not have a sufficient birth rate to sustain the population, hence immigration.

What makes you so certain there will be a second wave?
1
No, that would be you
1
Really? Sweden's death rate and case load is more than double ours in Canada. So glad I don't love there.

Given that the length of time one is immune is unknown, and this virus could continue to circulate for some time, my view is that prevention via enhanced immune status is the smartest. I take 4,000 mgs vitamin C and 5,000 iu of D, zinc, resveratrol and iodine. I eat well, excersise daily and consume at least 2 litres of water (rarely any alcohol). I will continue to wear a mask while out until this is over.
1
Yes, if it prevents others from choosing this path
1
@bostromberg4704 It is. everyone needs to be responsible to protect the herd, take vitamin D3, social distance, wear a mask when you leave the home.
1
Hmmmm ... Yes, let's watch how that works out in the US. Florida reported over 9,000 new cases today alone. Many hospitals are reaching or have reached capacity.
1
@Seb C They're not "letting the virus run its course", they became more strict once the virus started spreading more. But the US is a perfect illustration of what happens when you don't take precautions.

Concern for this virus and following safe practice measures increases or decreases in direct relationship to one's age
