If you study brain science you will learn that the neurology of a narcissist brain differs from the norm, it's visible in imagery. This is an anomaly not attributed to parenting.

People who weren't raised by effective parents or who are self absorbed or exhibit poor behaviour are not necessarily narcissistic.

@wellnesspathforme6236 You have no idea whatsoever about what narcissism truly is. It is a neurological disorder, an irregular "wiring if the brain" visible on scans. It's not a manipulative or egotistical personality alone, which many people have. It's a bonafide physical disorder.

@tessahall797 This particular "personality disorder" is actually a physical neurological disorder of the brain so yes it's inheritable. And you cannot teach or raise a child to become narcissistic.

@Jaime Ericksberg Researchers have discovered via imaging that people with narcissistic behavior have brains that have incomplete neurological connections in their frontal lobe, where empathy is centered. Once you learn more of what is known in neurology about this condition it should take away the moral judgement. In a perfect world children with narcissistic brain disorder would be identified early and undergo intensive therapy to promote learning the emotion of empathy they initially don't experience, essentially to develop partial new pathways. It's possible but not easy. There is excellent information available on how to interact with a person who is afflicted with narcissistic brain disorder who may be in your family in order to minimize the harm.
