Japan is going to be the next Wuhan virus hub outside of China

Ummmm, so far 2,000 people have died, not all of them elderly, almost all Chinese. That's hardly a huge exchange of wealth. The yearly flu kills more. Are you waiting for your parents to succumb?

@realstage1925 They didn't accept the Diamond Princess, they forced quarantine but clearly the on board quarantine was not effective at all given that one sick person spread the disease to over 600. Since they decided to keep people on board for quarantine, they should've provided full medical staff support, training, and supplies. How do you even call it quarantine when staff were sleeping 3 to a room and were not in hazmat suits? Most of the passengers are Japanese by the way, and now Japan is at greater risk because people are disembarking and many of them are incubating the virus. Good luck.

@realstage1925 Japan called the shots and decided to "quarantine" on board, other countries didn't have a choice about getting their people off. Meanwhile the poor standards and lack of equipment left the passengers, most of whom are Japanese, very vulnerable and over 600 caught the virus. SHAME.

Canada hasn't been testing anyone coming in from Chinese flights daily since the beginning so what are you panicking about? Those coming home from the ship are going into another 14 quarantine.. a real one this time.
3
The average incubation is 5-7 days and the false negative results in testing is uncommon but does occur. Let's at least state facts.

It can be disinfected easily, just as they do with Norwalk virus outbreaks on cruise ships. The virus doesn't live on surfaces indefinitely, so once you know the time frame, let it sit a few days, disinfect, then let it sit again. Done.
2
They should've done that from day one. At least once more people started getting sick and it became evident "Quarantine" wasn't effective.
2
One person with the Wuhan Virus results in infection in over 600 people. What Quarantine proceedures did they follow? I see a major class action lawsuit coming.

@marim7784 I agree. They had no training and no equipment. The idea of on board quarantine was clearly a disaster waiting to happen. Many Chinese health workers have become ill and some have died too.
2
They were "in quarantine" but allowed onto the deck every day for 90 minutes. Those with balconies standing near each other at the end of their balcony, and talking to each other. And staff, without protection except a mask, delivering food door to door, then returning to their small quarters with 3 others, and not being tested. It was ridiculous. I wouldn't trust the food prep either.

Ironically, as most passengers are Japanese, it's they who will spread it now to their own population, the other countries are evacuating their citizens and quarantining them.

@A A Only Japan had jurisdiction and only Japanese officials called the shots. Ship's owners have zero authority.

@2XLBlazer Just like SARS? LOL, the Chinese economy is too strong for that, it's the reason why Western Countries set aside their human rights concerns in order to do business.$$$$$
1
@2XLBlazer Interesting. Have you been to a Chinese restaurant lately? I went last night, and guess what? The only Asians there were the staff.

@bttnat439 I looked it up

@johnwang9914 They had completed their cruise, Japan was the returning stop. I'm not sure where they traveled to except that this ship usually goes to Australia and some Asian destinations at this time of year.
1
@johnwang9914 They went to China, Vietnam and Taiwan, I just learned.
1
@johnwang9914 So give me a list detailing numbers of people that were on board the Diamond Princess and where they're from. I'll wait.
1
@A A The WHO sent experts to China, they'd never accept America's.
1
@A A Various countries approached Japan at different times to have their citizens removed and that was at the behest of their people and their families on board. Americans were among the first. I don't have more detailed data than that.
1
Too late. Most of the passengers are Japanese and they're leaving the ship. They have no fever, so they're considered to be well 🤭

It started prior to that as taxi drivers were seeing it in early December, so it was going on a good month before that.

When we travel we take traveler's probiotics every day plus a gel capsule of oil of oregano with every meal. We've never gotten sick yet and we go once or twice a year for over 15 years now. I'm also extremely careful not to touch washroom door handles without a paper towel and if I must, I use my left had as I'm less likely to inadvertently touch my face with my left hand. I pay attention not to do that as I was in Toronto during SARS, working in a government office dealing with the traveling public and there were many coming in directly from Hong Kong.

Seriously?
