  7. Italian and French are Latin without the power, which contributes to their romanticness. Latin was originally ALL CAPS, which made its script more imposing. The round and soft "U" was a sharp, cutting "V." Then again, the pronunciation of "VINI VIDI VINCI" sounds a WEE bit infantile though the C there was a strong Spanish C as in "cobra" which contrasts with Italian's softer "CH" sound tendency. The key to what makes a language sound pleasant, harsh, beautiful or horrible, is the COMBINATIONS of sounds, not merely single ones out of context. I live in Cambodia where the language sounds like clucking with some Chinese sounds thrown in. When old ladies with their moribund throats cluck as they strive, the din is hellish. Indonesian sounds nice, but all other SE Asian languages sound very, VERY bad! This is the worst region for a lover of beautiful or cool languages. Spanish is my first language. I plan to learn many. German is the coolest European language after classical Latin. Dutch is German without the power. Portuguese is drunk Spanish.
