Spain gave the world chocolate and potatoes as well as knowledge of the Pacific even the Japanese lacked. Only Mesoamérica had chocolate before, and only the Inca area had potatoes prior.

I'm doing a huge realistic map of América for Age of Empires 2 HD which has Japan in the west of the map, and Africa in the east, in case anyone wants to conquer the Aztec and Incan Empires with Japan, or use Mali to take China, or to recreate the Spanish Empire, or have an epic war between Mayans, Aztecs and Incas. I wish Zulus and Lakotas were available.

@Omerath9 Portugal gave potatoes thanks to Spain discovering them. During the Iberian Union, the Spanish Emperor had Goa and everything else Portuguese including Portugal itself. Portugal "discovered" Ethiopia, Arabia, India, China and Japan which ancients or Marco Polo already knew about. Spain had a lot more real discoveries.

@alukuhito I know little about Scotland. If you mean about empires, I think they tried to colonize part of America. Hold on... Yeah. They tried to take Panamá but failed. Near Panamá was where the British Armada got wrecked by the Spaniards (Cartagena de Indias). Then there's Nova Scotia. I recreated Nova Scotia for my ginormous realistic map of América I'm working on, for Age of EMpires 2 HD. I look forward to incorporating it into my empire. It's a nice area.

Marco Polo and others went to China and through China knew about Southeast Asia and Japan, so what did the Portuguese REALLY discover? Spain could have but was busy defending Europe from the Ottoman Empire, exploring half the world, fighting all of Protestant Europe, fighting half of Catholi Europe and fighting American rebels. The Japanese after unification threatened Spain with war, and some samurais with Chinese pirates came to Cagayán but got wrecked by the Spanish despite being outnumbered and the Asians having guns and artillery from the Portuguese. Spain also wished to conquer China, but it was too busy to deal with such a behemoth undertaking. The Brits had it easier with the English Industrial Revolution improving their technology to dominate more easily. But the British Empire would not have existed without the Spanish.

Most of América on the other hand... was owned by Spaniards. Granted, the Mughals and Turks were far more advanced than the Aztecs and Incas, but if Spain had the Old World in the Treaty of Tordesillas instead of the Far West, it wouldn't have been a mere several dots along the coasts but many inland territories that would have been ruled. The Treaty of Tordesillas saved many Africans and Asians from Spanish domination. Regardless, Qeshm and Goa were Spanish-owned during the Iberian Union. The Spanish Emperor owned Portugal. :-_) LOL!

Just let Italians invent the caravel, let northern Crusaders do your own Reconquista, and keep to the coasts so you can claim you own the continent without actually going into it! :V LOL!!!

So I and my people were attacked because I said the truth which doesn't stroke the Portuguese EGO. Now, if someone calls you a loser after you beat them in chess, is it pride to say "But I beat you in chess, so you are the loser, not me"? If the loser is not a sore loser, and you rub it in their face that you are a winner, that would be pride. But if they lie about the results, and you highlight the truth, that is not pride. That is just self-defense from the proud liar who wants others to look down on you. It seems like Portuguese is to Spanish what Cantonese is to Mandarin in that it's more fun to speak and less serious despite having fewer speakers. Cantonese is like a roller coaster.
