  10. Christopher Montemayor. You're right, the NYT broke it in part first, then the New Yorker broke the full story. The NYT probably got a heads up and decided to run their own version first. Getting ahead of the story, otherwise known as damage control. Thanks, I hadn't thought of that. In general I really don't pay attention to gossip, but this is interesting, Hollywood proclaimed themselves to be moral arbitrators in the vein of the Roman Catholic Church and just like the Church they have a festival with prelates preaching morality, I guess their time has come to be put through the wringer.

  14. Different oligarchs own different outlets, NYT Carlos Slim(who really doesn't want a wall, bad for his business). But he also has a media empire and wants to expand into the US, taking away some of BeIn media group and Disneys toys could be a coup. Miramax is gonna be a lot cheaper now.

It's not simple at all, different players have constantly shifting alliances and temporary partnerships, there are at best amongst those who truly have power a constant jockeying for power to influence, profit and guide opinion, add to that the bureaucracies, the different NGOs, the political groups etc... But the people who own an outlet has ultimate control, they chose who has the voice du jour.
