  4. I don't think that's just a Conservative problem, I think that's a human problem. It's hard to care about the stranger and identify with people who are unfamiliar to you, perhaps they think the same of you as you do of them. You haven't really listened to them, if you had without pavlovian patterns of disgust you would recognize that the feeling of alienation and despair in a social structure that has in effect fallen to ruin. And so like you or me they cling to what they feel is important. Things that they identify with, what gives a sense of belonging.
