The ruling classes, You gotta let go of the illusion of them united, obviously the "ruling classes" dislikes Trump and Bernie, the reason for this is simple, they both disrupt the status quo, whomever holds power is allways hostile towards change. Look at it this way, you have people who are internationalist vs people who are not, the internationalists/globalists/corporatists(the name is unimportant) desires to control humanity, anybody who opposes them are pro change. Unfettered immigration is good for business, it provides cheap labor and it undermines unions. It is also good for those who wishes to prevent the peons from uniting, with a more diverse populace you get more venues of pursuing the old adage of divide and conquer. War is off course necessary for several reasons to maintain control, they promote fear of the outsiders by promoting war(Jingoism), they get to sell a metric ton of bullets(nice government subsidy and a tax cut included in the package) and band aids(which is particularly sinister in scope, they own an arms company and a pharma company, gets a tax deduction for supporting some BS charity, sells band aids to that charity), they earn a few bucks more owning media who ramps up the fear of others in the populace at large. It's a win, win, win and as an added bonus you get to loot whatever country gets invaded.

So the oil wasn't going to be a benefit to the citizens of the US, it would be a new source of revenue for the petrochemical industry.
