Telma Elma. You know that there are an additional component to this, people who desire wealth, fame and power often possess very little impulse control or selfworth, they are driven towards attaining these things to compensate for that lack of connection they have to others which in turn provides them with what they lack through coercion and force, hence only the vile and cruel prosper, in a industry based on the worship of the self and superficiality such individuals will be represented in far greater numbers than in the average population, the reason for their obsession with appearance and youth is simple, they fear death, they fear it because they have sacrificed every vestige of their humanity to rise to the top of the shitheap, but once they are there they driven by fear of the ambitious younger versions of themselves and by the realization that all the wealth, power and fame cannot avert the one certainty in life, namely death.
That's the void in their psyche/soul they are trying to fill with meaningless petty cruelty, in this regard they are no different than a spiteful SS kommandant who orders the camp population killed before the allies liberate them and just after the order is given pops a cyanide capsule. Their common maxim is simple, if I suffer despite my power and cannot avert death, so must all whom I have power over suffer and die.

J. I disagree, it's extremely relevant, the entire entertainment industry rewards the worst traits in humanity and because the people who rise to the top are insulated from consequence by wealth and fame there is no checks to stop it from happening. I wrote the following in response to another comment, it explains how I think the people have risen through the ranks to dominate the entertainment industry and why they act like Weinstein.
