After the fall of the Soviet Union the west imposed corrupt oligarchies in Eastern Europe and they were instructed to sell each country’s assets off to western corporations and join nato with no vote. The majority of the population in most former Soviet countries say the collapse of the USSR was a bad thing. Bush Sr promised Gorbachev that nato would not expand one inch eastwards.

Why did they rig elections in countries like Italy to prevent communist victory and why did they support fascists in the Greek civil war to defeat the communists?
