David Carlyon We’re never going to get anywhere working within the liberal democracy. You can’t win rigged elections.
4
You lost us due to neoliberalism. We despised Blair and abandoned his project. Corbyn partially revived the party in 2017 but it’s dead now.
4
The fact that this has been covered nowhere by MSM is despicable. We had hours of propaganda on the AS scandal every single day for years and now there isn’t a peep from anyone. The media should be on their knees apologising.
3
John McCann What? The results show that we preferred Corbyn over his neoliberal predecessors as did the rest of the UK.
3
inc Labour is not socialist. We lost that battle in 1932 and we’ve wasted nearly a century continuing to fight it.
2
Michael McCorry True, I’m not even sure that we’d have enough time if the labour left were still in charge and gained power in 2024. We need to take action now, sitting on our arses for 5 years is going to end up getting us killed.
2
Culture Clash Music & Video I don’t really, just like to check out what stories they’ve censored, buried or pushed down everyone’s throats every now and then.
2
inc Electoralism gets you nowhere. Real change only happens through revolution as history shows.
2
julian shepherd Actually being from the youth I can tell you that we are a lot more pro labour and less pro independence than older voters. That’ll probably change now though.
2
John McCann If neoliberals hadn’t done such a great job destroying all trust and support for labour here years ago we wouldn’t have this problem.
2
James Keilt You’re right about Starmer so why would you vote for the SNP who are nearly identical to him? Look into what they’re actually doing behind the scenes, they’re complicit in austerity. They aren’t protecting us against the tories at all.
2
Andy Madeley That’s why a new party must be based around direct action and the building of an alternative society. We need a movement that is on the ground caring for the working class and agitating for a new society.
2
I would but not if they continue advocating for another EU referendum and running off into the sunset with the Lib Dem’s.
2
MixtrisUFOimages Exactly. People need to take a long hard look at what the labour left has actually accomplished in the last 50 years, it isn’t much.
1
John McCann Scotland obviously. It’s not irrelevant if Blair is still the main reason why people don’t trust labour.
1
Jim Stirling The SNP get off far lighter with the media than Corbyn did. They don’t even mention their support for austerity.
1
julian shepherd What’s the opposite of the truth? The fact that labour was in decline and was completely smashed in Scotland by 2015 before beginning to make a comeback under Corbyn in 2017?
1
julian shepherd Yeah, I’m a Marxist from a Jewish background and have been called anti Semitic by members of my own party many times.
1
julian shepherd Nepotism, corruption, infighting and incompetence were the core values of new labour though, it was their project that led to that situation.
1
julian shepherd Labour was complicit in austerity until Corbyn and Leonard took over respectively. They’re still councillors who back it but Matt Kerr and others have fought against it. I’m not talking about the tory austerity forced onto us, I’m talking about the SNP’s own programmes that say they’ll implement more of their own austerity.
1
julian shepherd They went from 1 to 7 Westminster Scottish seats in 2017 and the membership doubled after Corbyn was elected.
1
julian shepherd No offence but if you live in what I’m assuming is a tory constituency then I can understand why labour didn’t do much campaigning. They need to focus on the SNP up here.
1
julian shepherd You’re right, labour isn’t united and the Blairite faction is very corrupt but the Alex salmond issue isn’t painting a pretty picture of SNP internal politics either.
1
julian shepherd That’s the point though, not that I agree with them but Salmonds people are saying that sturgeon was politically motivated to get rid of him and it looks like he’ll go on the offensive now he’s cleared. Is sturgeon really more left wing than salmond? I know that back in the day he tried to make the SNP into a dedicated socialist party but things could have changed since.
1
julian shepherd Scottish Labour had 8000-13000 members in 2014, increasing to 30000 after Corbyn was elected UK Leader.
1
julian shepherd I don’t think labour really attacks sturgeon that much. They’ll probably start now though since there’s no longer any meaningful political difference between them apart from independence.
1
julian shepherd You’re not defending the tory government by attacking the SNP, you’re attacking a party carrying out policies identical to tory policies that kill people.
1
julian shepherd If labour wasn’t in the House of Lords there would be no opposition party in the House of Lords although most labour lords are dogshit and I was disappointed that abolishing the lords wasn’t more of a concrete plan in the manifesto.
1
julian shepherd Maybe actually look into the numbers you’re lifting off Wikipedia before claiming I’m the one with made up figures. You’re using the figures from before and after Richard Leonard was elected, I’m looking at the figures from before and after Corbyn was elected.
1
julian shepherd That’s just embarrassing, what did I even do to trigger you?
1
julian shepherd And by the way I’m not defending labour as a whole I’m defending Corbyn’s labour which actually stood up to imperialism unlike the SNP or the greens.
1
julian shepherd No, the blairites changed labours policies without permission, Corbyn was democratically elected by a majority of Scottish members to change the policies back to what we wanted. You’re an idiot if you think what Ireland has had to face is even comparable to what we’ve seen in Scotland. We stood side by side with England in the empire and helped with the oppression of other countries, including Ireland. Corbyn wanted us to decide whether or not we should become independent, would you prefer it if we didn’t have a choice?
1
Karen Jenny He won’t leave labour and the media have completely destroyed his reputation. We don’t need figureheads, socialism is not Corbyn. I love the guy but we can’t get anything done if we continue to imagine him as our leader.
