Ok Ok Well apartheid South Africa was a much worse situation than Iran and if I recall correctly Reagan actually refused to put the sanctions on them but they clearly didn’t harm the apartheid government or lead to the end of apartheid in any way so probably not no. Citizen boycotts are a good idea though and I think that actually did harm apartheid.

  27. Ok Ok Reagan blocked sanctions for years and they were absolutely not seen as one of the main reason why apartheid was overthrown and the ANC took power, that’s just ridiculous. America was responsible for propping up apartheid, not tearing it down. Why do some Americans have to claim that every victory in the history of the world was their doing.

The US and the gulf states fuelled the war in Syria by arming radical jihadists who Iran was invited to fight against by the government (I know it’s hard for an American to grasp that you can’t just send troops in without permission.) In Yemen, Iran doesn’t give much to the Houthis but on the other hand the US gives the Saudis the planes and bombs that they need to bomb hospitals, school busses and funerals. Iran is the way it is because it has been isolated by America and suffers from poverty BECAUSE OF AMERICAN SANCTIONS. Looks like you’re the propaganda tool here mate.

South Africa was never an active threat to the US because the US didn’t overthrow their terrible government, instead they chose to overthrow Iran’s democrat government in 1952 but priorities I guess. You’re just straight up lying, it was Mandela who dismantled the nuclear weapons after the transition away from apartheid.   30. Ok Ok That’s not what happened but I’ll admit I was also partially wrong. In 1989 during beginning of the transition away from apartheid South Africa agreed to dismantle their nuclear weapons as part of the peace deal with Cuba and Angola. The bombs were not confirmed to have been dismantled until 1994. Linking me an article from NYT on American exceptionalism isn’t an argument. You imperialists really do have a short memory don’t you, Iran dismantled its nuclear program after the US agreed to lift sanctions. Trump tore up the deal and imposed sanctions that kill people, it’s America that is the threat, not Iran. So fucking brainwashed.

Iran’s government is domestically terrible but I’ve been defending their foreign policy because it is a justifiable reaction to American aggression. Your comments seemed very pro US, especially when you talked about America being the benevolent face of the world order. You’re correct about my background but I was educated in the UK so got a very pro western education at school and I’ve had the benefit of hearing the opinions of family who are pro USSR and family who are anti USSR. I even have family who emigrated to America who I’ve visited a few times and I can tell you that I do not hate them or the American people. I was not brought up a communist, I was brought up to form my own opinions which eventually led me to where I am now.

In 1950 the national party of South Africa introduced the apartheid system of segregation, racism and white dominance in the government and several other areas. Then, the National Party enacted a series of land acts, that reserved over eighty percent of the South African lands for whites. In a display of authority, the government evicted thousands of nonwhite South Africans from their rural homes, driving them into cities and selling their land to whites for farming and ranching. Blacks had to show passes at frequent times throughout the day and almost all of them lived in poverty. Many of them were beaten and killed for simply being born black. When Nelson Mandela came to power he didn't even change the white rugby team to show that he wasn't going to discriminate against whites as revenge. If not for him, the oppressed would have teared your heads off. So next time a white man is killed in a random act remember if many had got their way he wouldn't have been there. If you're wondering about the change of tone from my previous comment I realised you may in fact be more intellectual than previously suspected. So, does this comment deserve a response?
