You do realise that post ww2 the eastern bloc had much more economic freedom and the same levels of political freedom as America during the McCarthy era right? A few million people were killed by Stalinism and that’s the end of the story. The Khmer Rouge were western backed ultra nationalists who were overthrown by socialist Vietnam but even then Cambodia had a very small population to begin with.
