If the people from the evil government have power of friendship, but not the hero, would also be nice. Maybe some conspiracy theorist, who knows, that rich people work together to torture the poor, but noone believes them, because most people either don't care about politics or they even believe their oppressors, so the conspicacy theorist never gets any friends and probably loses and noone will ever know, they were right, until it's too late. Just like in real life :P

What about characters, who have many friends, but are too weak to help them, and also don't even try. In this case, it would be pretty likely, if they get evil.
