  1. I expect corruption in politics, but I expect the function of government to be somewhat adequate in exchange for this corruption. People don’t get into politics without knowing they can grease wheels. We have to accept this because the alternative is worse. We have the former, but not the latter.

  5. I had Hitchens as a professor in college. Dude smoked in class and the professional reporters at the major dailies who took his class a sycophants recoiled at his boorishness. He sensed this disdain, but didn’t care. I knew I liked him then.
