  5. To your final point about rural communities... yes, they trended socialist, but not marxist. The marxists would have loved to have this working class as a constituency because they had similar goals, but the working class rejected them because marxists are invariably 5’2” intellectuals from wealthy families who’ve never held a hammer. Now you understand where fascists come from; socialists who reject marxists who both reject western liberalism and market capitalism.

  7. The Klan rose as a response to reconstruction. You can not like the response, but reconstruction was that bad. Northerners imposed formerly black slaves who were illiterate, more cruel to non-slave owners than their masters were to them, and who stole via their new positions through government.
