  1. Jefferson Davis freed his slaves before accepting his charge as head of the confederacy. You can still hear an oral account on YouTube of one of his slaves that Davis was impressed with and began a school for slaves to teach them to read and wrote. No slaves in the history of the world were treated better than in America.
