  1. You’ll get labour as a result. This is the trap of modern politics when it comes to emerging third parties — serious third parties, not fringe. Your defection to the third option means you split your traditional votes and your enemies win. I’m not telling you what to do, politically, just to consider the technical ramifications as a strategy.

  3. No. You will get the American equivalent of either Lincoln or Wilson — two of America’s worst presidents — because the votes were split from the previously dominant parties. Whichever side defects more to the third option means their adversaries win.
