From an American, we are not race obsessed, per se. I was in a college fraternity that was diverse, but I can’t remember all the Asians or all the Jews or all the Indians ( dot, not feather ). They all kinda blend together as memories for another reason than what race the person was. But I do notice when someone in a position of power got that power by racial fiat and not by merit. Especially when it’s obvious. A white engineer would laugh at losing a job to an Asian or Dot Indian — we get the best of both and it would simply figure. It wouldn’t bother him at all. Losing that job to Jamal would bother him. I didn’t get a creative director job at an agency that called me and found out later the person who got it was a just-out-of-college female black studies major who was probably gay and couldn’t spell, based on her posts. That made me mad. That’s when you notice.

In America in the 1970s they did this with Irish and Italians — tried to work in a kind of rough-around-the-edges ethnic with a heart of gold. It was forced, but believable because you might meet someone like that in real life and that person might even get the TV character’s name as a nickname. This doesn’t work for all ethnicities.

The irony is that in order to exploit our empathy they have to confess to supremacy. It is not just our productivity that brought them to us but our magnanimity that they even think to petition us for more. They themselves cast themselves as inferior through the gesture. Unfortunately, this phony appeal to flattery works with too many self important people of the liberal persuasion who think they have the power to grant them something.

Tell them to look at the rapid demographic changes in American cities like Detroit and Cleveland. These places are considered dumps now, but they were once some of the wealthiest cities on earth. All you have to do is see the faces change from 1940 to 1960 to understand the single reason America lists it’s auto making hegemony. Blacks call this “the great migration.”
