  1. What you should learn is the economic lesson and that it should never have begun. When slavery was abolished in the United States, cotton production boomed as the industry moved west, to Texas, and its workforce became exclusively white. Turns out black slave labor is only better than NO labor at all. White children on family farms picked more cotton than adult blacks, even free ones. The case against slavery can be made in purely economic terms if productivity is the goal.
