Colonialism benefitted the African, a people living in the Paleolithic age at the time of first contact. More Africans were saved from each other and saved from the elements — AIDS treatments and malaria treatments — than could possibly have been harmed.

@garyrothwell1914 All of them were founded by outsiders — either Muslims in the east or Europeans in the west and south, though Nairobi was founded by the British. It wasn’t even there 120 years ago.

You’re attributing intellect, self reflection and foresight to a class of people who have never demonstrated any of these things. You’re making a multiculturalist’s mistake.

I’m not sure he has. Sowell has an eye for comparative cultures, which is what makes him so worthwhile. But his explanation for why Africa is backwards has to do with inhospitable rivers for navigable trade, failing to understand that even had these rivers been more hospitable the African didn’t know how to produce anything to trade. He also ignores that those other cultures built better boats to overcome natural hindrances whereas Africans just dug out logs.

Your family’s apprehensive class attitude toward degrees is not something I am alive to solve. You should regard foreign blacks the same way. They live amongst you as a privilege yet somehow you accept some premise that you’re obligated to provide them with the things they could never make.

@markhenryramsey9132 That’s the premise. Your apprehension to advance yourself is a you problem, not a societal one. No one owes you or them anything. That you even accept the premise as an argument at all negates any degree you’ve earned.

I think Bowie’s “Is it any wonder I reject you first” line is apt here. Many people are so simple that they hate what they can no be, so they find others like them to rebel against it in some sort of low culture nihilism. Underclasses behave this way.

@gg-pb9sq The American schools aren’t failing them; the sequence is reversed. Blacks don’t pay into schools. Blacks don’t even pay taxes against the hundreds of billions in return for services in America to “lift them up.” Bell curve notwithstanding, they’re glued to the ground. Not only is there a can’t, not only is there a won’t, there’s an open defiance against anyone who would try.

@JackSmith-hx8zh Yes, but China has made the mistake of taking up the white man’s burden in Africa. They’ll soon realize why the Europeans who built that place decided to leave it without much of a fight.
