You’re missing several steps. Detroit was built from a trading outpost to one of the wealthiest cities in the world. Why did the work leave? Better question — what group of people came in large numbers, brought crime, and pushed city founders out of the area? Everything fell apart across America during this same time. The reason is not why, but who.

@GeorgeFitness-yo8bl The factory jobs left because you came and dispersed people to the suburbs with your blight and crime. Suburban workers cost more to pay. It was all downhill from there. So many cities that were once among the richest in the word — cities you had literally no hand in building — hollowed out in a generation by the great migration.
