  1. UBI epitomizes Orwell's "there are some ideas so stupid only an intellectual would believe them." Said Harris: "We need a new ethic..." That's the fundamental flaw of the marxists, that we're at the end of history and we can rewrite ourselves both as people and a society. The "freeing up of humanity" from "boring, repetitive work" is straight from marx and 'alienation'. This is the 'geniuses in charge' flaw of organizing society as opposed the exuberance and unpredictability of markets. Inflation alone is enough to condemn this idea as myopic and stupid, to say nothing of a lack of imagination. A century ago, ice delivery people feared 'automation' of their work through refrigerators, or horse and buggy people afraid of the effects of cars. Sam Harris is an extremely overrated thinker.
