It’s adorable that you think in enlightenment principles but forget that so many among us — people like the suspect here — are too stupid and feral to abide these principles, which is why he have law, right? We don’t make laws prescriptively — we make them as a reaction to past behavior. What are you noticing about these suspects that goes beyond enlightenment liberty?

If you’re interested in gallows humor, look at the names of the people who commit mass shootings in America. Most of them are Jaquezeus or DeAndre and what’s funny is even most of the shooters named Brandon or David aren’t even white. Some of the names you see are simply unbelievable.

The spirit of bail is a voucher system; that you are putting up your money and reputation to prevent this person from committing more crime. It’s an understood, contractual obligation. You only are supposed to get out of being held before trial because SOMEONE ELSE vouches for you with their money and reputation. I agree with you about the legality and ethics being at odds, but it would be curious to see them press the Bail Project’s culpability based on the spirit of the law.

Our bail system is fine. It’s a single segment of our population that consumes through criminality resources beyond what our justice system was designed to address. We have a system based on enlightenment liberty and a race whose never built anything committed on destroying what others built. You are aware that 81% of the shootings in America are committed by black males, yes? Or doesn’t that data reach your country?

@SicketMog our bail system works because a person surrenders not only their assets but also someone else’s assets who vouched for them. You have to understand the European-American reluctance for such things as justice administration, as so many of us escaped our disparate homelands to avoid it and kept this tradition of the parochial containment of community for justice instead of an overofficious state. You’re rich today because we did this. Your drugs come from us, as does your national defense because of the way we’ve figured things out. You have to be American to understand this unique freedom, as well as understand the kind of person required for it to work. To use football as a metaphor; tactics in football don’t work if you have terrible players who refuse to play by either written or generally understood rules. Even our white criminals generally abided the terms of their bond. We don’t have that many white criminals anymore and we could actually defund the police if we didn’t have POC. We run a system for enlightened people and allow savages to live among us. That’s the TLDR of American decline.
