It's very hard to believe that Kremlin is not aware of the real state of Russia, how money is disappearing left and right, including money for their military. Also their military budgets is far from Soviet era. I just think they don't like to lose or perhaps more likely, is afraid of losing. Convincing Russia to accept a possible defeat is also a terrible idea, actually that's a nightmare if this war is ending by some kind of mutual agreement via negotiation where we in the west (and especially Ukraine) would have to accept that Russia won't be punished hard for this, and once again get's away with murder so to speak. Russia needs to die in an humiliating manner and basically become Germany after ww2.
