As an American combat engineer that’s odd, perhaps that’s how the German army lays minefields or perhaps you can’t afford landmines with your small military budget but the US lays very deep multi-faceted minefields using traditional & advanced technology landmines.

@ghostwraith119 America never lost a single battle or engagement in the war and maintained well over a 100:1 kill ratio. They overthrew the Taliban government in 6 weeks with less than 200 men. There had not been a war there for years, all combat operations ceased after 2014 and the US was just providing air support and training, it was a nation building mission and there were entire years where not a single American was killed and never were more than 8 Americans killed in a single year for the last 4 years they werethere. It was not a military operation it was a humiliating withdrawal ordered by a completely incompetent president with dementia who fuked it all up, not the military. The American people demanded their troops be withdrawn and they were tired of spending billions every month trying to bring progress & democracy to a tribal people who wanted neither.

Everyone seems to forget that this is the first time Russia has ever gone up against a neer-peer army in 80 years in WWI. All their other fighting has been against rag tag neighborhood militias in Chechnya, Georgia and Syria mostly just killing & terrorizing civilians. Look at how well Russia is doing in its first real war Lol! America fought the 3rd largest military in the world in 1991, a military that used Soviet doctrine & weapons exactly like Russia today and America ran them over in 100 hours which is the time it would take them to defeat Russia in a war today only what remains of the Black Sea fleet would also be sunk. This is not bravado this is the real different between Americas capabilities and Russias capabilities, the difference between combined arms mobil warfare and trench warfare.

@piotrd.4850 There will be no treaty anytime soon but Russia very much wants to freeze the battlefield right now, they don’t have the combat power to take any more territory or their first major city. Any treaty that’s drafted will have Ukraine being fast-tracked into NATO with full NATO protection until they become full members but it’s very likely the lines will be frozen where they are now, they don’t move in 2023.

Over 200,000 Russians were killed & wounded in 2023, far more than ukraine because of the insane unsupported infantry & meat-wave tactics they used, Russia doesn’t give a damn how many men they lose, never have and never will and that’s why they are so hard to beat, not because they are good at war because they are not they just have an extremely high pain threshold.

None of you have ever been in the military and it shows, there is no advantage to using combat veterans in basic training when they are just learning the basics of being a soldier the combat veterans tech the boots once they get to their units and that’s where the real training begins. It does not matter how much NATao training you give Ukraine because they will never perform anywhere near as well as NATO does with its decades of experience & training. Ukrainians are very good at fighting Russians in this kind of a war, NATO doesn’t do trench warfare or artillery duals, NATO does combined arms mobile warfare with precision weapons. Combined Arms Mobil Warfare is very difficult and requires a ton of training which is why Russia cannot do it even those they have some of the best aircraft in the world.

Russia is taking horrendous casualties because of their tactics, 315,000 killed & wounded as of October and November was the deadliest month of the entire war for Russia. What is being done to Russian soldiers is cruel and reprehensible, unsupported infantry assaults, Storm-Z meatwave assaults with blocking troops, making wounded soldiers go on these assaults. These men have been there for almost a year and a half, they have shit for weapons no training or decent cold weather gear, Ukraine has the finest cold weather gear from Canada and the Norwegian countries and get rotated off the lines regularly but not Russia. There is no end in sight for these men they are in for the duration of the war but murders & rapist only serve 6 months and get to go home as free men to brutalize the Russian public again, how do you think this makes the forcibly mobilized feel? This is a totally unnecessary war that’s being taught for Putins vanity and his legacy and nothing more. Putin doesn’t care how many Russians he kills, Putin doesn’t give two-shits about his soldiers or how many die, Putin killed & wounded almost 200,000 Russians in 2023 for 63 square kilometers of territory.

The Gulf War of 1991 is an example of the difference between these two types, Iraq was the 3rd largest army in the world and followed Soviet doctrine to the letter and they used trench warfare. America using combined arms mobile warfare defeated Iraq in 100 hours which is the time it was take for America to defeat the entire Russian army in Ukraine today only they would also sink the entire Black Sea fleet during this 100 hour war.

No other military in the world comes anywhere close to them including China & Russia. The American military is larger than the next 10 largest militaries in the world, combined. America took on the Iraqi army in 1991 when it was the 4th largest army in the world and defeated them in 96 hours which is exactly what they would do to Russia along with sinking every ship in their Black Sea fleet.

@observer020 Russia never stopped mobilizing, they gave their monthly conscription plus they are offering salaries 4 times what the average poor Russian in the rural areas make so there are no shortage of volunteers either. Russias monthly replacements have been keeping up with their casualties, they have no shortage of men and neither does Ukraine, there are plenty on both sides to last for many years. Manpower is not Ukraines problem, American MAGA Republicans holding up weapons are Ukraines problem and a big one at that, that’s what will cause them to lose this war not running out of men. Ukraine is much more conservative with its troops than Russia, there is no comparison.

@PaulSith Ukraine losses have been high but not as high as Russias, most say they are 2/3 of Russian losses or lower. The reason for this is because of Russias insane tactics of sending in unsupported infantry, meat-wave attacks by Storm Z, and their poor armor tactics & staying on roads that Ukraine has pre-designated artillery on & FPV drones. I myself have seen a drone flyover video outside of Advika and counted 93 dead Russian from one small area, it’s insane what Putin is doing to his military. The casualty figures are from a US intelligence report that was declassified a month ago, America has many satellites parked over Ukraine that are being analyzed 24/7 along with its many paid spies in the Russian military, MoD and even the Kremlin who are all hedging their bets and looking for a new home to land if the Russian Federation falls or Putin is forced out.

They have nowhere near the combat power to take Odessa and the rest of the coast, won’t ever happen. And Russia helping China economically is that a joke, Russia has a tiny economy, I live in the state of Texas and we have a larger economy than Russia as do many of our other states, Indonesia has a larger economy than Russia and the Ruble is only worth one US cent, a penny, but they are going to help China economically Lol. Being able to talk about battles that happened hundreds of years because you like to read military history in no way correlates with being able to know what’s going on today’s modern battlefield. Oynx, the ISW and Janes Defense military think tanks give you the most accurate picture of what’s happening on the battlefield, not some kid with a YouTube channels that caters to supporters of Russia and has 0 military experience, formal education or connections to the military intelligence communities.

Perhaps if Ukraine was offered immediate NATO membership but I don’t see it happening unless America stops all aid. If the west continues to supply them with weapons in ever increasing power they will win. Even if Russia does take this territory Ukraine will continue an insurrection & asymmetrical Warfare against them in these occupied regions making staying there far too expensive in lives & materials. Ukraine is far from running out of soldiers and can easily field another million if necessary and they take casualties at a much lower rate than Russia because of their tactics & western hardware.

Russia is only doing trench warfare because they cannot do combined arms mobile warfare, if they could they would have taken Ukraine in 3 weeks like they had planned. Russia cannot gain air superiority, and without that you cannot do combine arms warfare and neither can Ukraine. You can’t train someone to “NATO standards” and expect them to perform anywhere close to what NATO or America can because they have decades of experience in combined arms warfare which is very difficult and requires immense training & coordination. Same with Ukrainian F-16 pilots, they won’t be able to perform anywhere close to an American F-16 squadron. Ukrainians are unbelievably quick at learning western weapon systems, they learn a lot faster than Americans do but that does not mean they anywhere close to being able to conduct combined arms mobil warfare like America can.

Perhaps Russia learned something from them but Russia thought they could do combined arms mobile warfare just because they could do it with their choreographed military exercises but they are nowhere close to being able to do combined arms because they are unable to gain air superiority like America & west does and that’s the first step, without air superiority you go nowhere like Ukraine on their offensive this summer or Russia in Donbas. If Russia was able to do combined arms warfare they would have overrun Kiev in 3 days and all of Ukraine in 3 weeks like they had planned, not fighting attrition trench warfare for a small strip of land on their own border.

What we see seeing in Ukraine is not a modern war, it’s two conscript military’s using 90’s era weapons & WWI tactics slugging it out in a war of attrition where neither side is making any real progress. It’s the largest war in Europe since WWII, no question there.

If you want to see what modern warfare is compared to what Russia is capable of doing look at the Gulf War in 1991. Iraq used the exact same weapons and tactics as Russia used today in Ukraine and they were the 3rd largest military in the world. America used modern warfare which is Combined Arms Mobile Warfare against Iraq Russian style military and had an overwhelming victory in 100 hours. That is exactly what America would do to Russia today, using their MODERN for of warfare against Russias TRENCH warfare. Russia has some of the best planes in the world but they are totally useless in Ukraine and can’t be used, how do you think they would do against America or NATO when they can’t even be used against the poorest country in Europe?

@avus-kw2f213 I have fought in both a large scale conventional war against an army that’s a mirror-image of Russias army and asymmetrical warfare against an insurgency. The conventional war, or “modern” war as you incorrectly call it was much easier. Russia does not have a modern professional military, they have a conscript army, 85% of the Russian military that started the Ukraine war are gone, wiped out.

@justgame2924 Russian air defenses are pathetic, they can’t stop our cruise missiles or drones, Ukraine can hit Moscow & St Pete at will. Americas Patriot system is the best in the world and has a 100% kill ratio against Russias best missile the Kinzhal which is not supersonic like they claim. America on the other hand has a true hypersonic missile that stays hypersonic all the way to the target where as the Kinzhal has to slow way down which makes it vulnerable. Russia does have good electronic warfare, some of the best but that’s it, the entire world has seen how bad their air defense systems are and other nations are ditching them and are trying to buy Patriots from America, India & Vietnam are two examples.

@lightworker2956 No they are not false, they are the most accurate numbers we have received yet and although they don’t list the Ukrainian casualties they do state they are lower than Russias, no more than 2/3’s of Russias loss with a 1:5 to 1:7 kill-wounded rate where Russia has a 1:3 kill-wound rate because of their poor access to field medics. Russia is taking many more casualties because of their tactics, they are sending in unsupported infantry & using human meat-wave attacks with Storm-Z to take a few meters of territory. I don’t know why this surprises you Russia has been fighting wars like this since the Czar, they throw massive amounts of men at the enemy and don’t give a damn how many die. It’s why Russia is so damn hard to beat, they are not great at fighting wars but they will accept casualty rates that no western military would even begin to accept. Normally a unit is no longer combat effective when they loose 20-30% of their force, they are then withdrawn & replaced on the battlefield. This 20-30% was in Soviet Doctrine too and Russia followed it until last year when they raised that number to 80% and that’s just insane, at 80% loss the unit no longer exist and thus is why Russia has had to reconstitute the same unit two and three times already, the 155th Naval Infantry and many other Marine & VDV units. 85% of the initial Russian military that invaded Ukraine is gone, dead or wounded. 85% is basically the entire Russian army and it’s gone, only some high ranking officers and a few lucky soldiers remain and that’s just and astounding amount of punishment to take and not even blink as Russia has done.

One of Russias favorite propaganda techniques is called mirroring - accuse your enemy of what’s happening to you, when you are taking massive casualties you say the enemy is taking massive casualties. It’s Russian Propaganda 101. There are many American satellites parked over this battlefield with teams of analyst going through photographs 24/7 and that along with the extensive spy network America has in the Russian military, MoD & Kremlin they know best of the casualties & material losses in this war. The satellite photographs don’t lie, neither do the spies feeding information to US intelligence, these spies are not just well paid they are Russians looking for a country to land in if the Russian federation collapses or Putin is removed.

Russia has always been very good at defense. They are horrible at offense and won’t ever capture a major city or make big gains and they can’t do combined arms mobile warfare but they can put up a hell of a defense.

If it’s WWI or WWII then it still applies to Russia who fights & uses the exact same way tactics they did during the world wars, with much better weapons of course. Russia is unable to do combined arms mobile warfare and has no choice but to resort to trench warfare & artillery duals supplied by railroads.

The sanctions have not failed, Russias economy is weak and inflation is over 50% and out of control and the Ruble is worth 1 US cent, a penny. Just last Friday Kadyrov offered to free every single Ukrainian POW if the US would lift sanctions on his family members, including his horse. Does that sound like sanctions not working? Another thing about sanctions is the longer they last the more painful they get and Russia is just now feeling this pain, they can’t get parts for their aircraft, cars, railroads. They can’t even build their 5th Gen fighters or any tanks without western tech and the Russian military will take 10-20 years to get back where it was before the war.

Korea and Iran combined. The west could provide the right types & amounts of weapons that would allow Ukraine to defeat Russia this year but they won’t, Ukraine has only been given 4% of NATOs weapons and old garage sale weapons at that. The west is giving Ukraine enough weapons to prevent the Russians from gaining any more territory but not enough to defeat them as they are trying to drag this war out as long as possible to cause the maximum damage & collapse the Russian Federation just like they did to the Soviet Union. Russia is spending the exact same percentage of their GDP on this war now as the Soviet Union did that caused their collapse. It’s really fuked up if you think about it, they are trading Ukrainian lives just to bring down the Russian Federation. I don’t think you Vatniks has any idea of the massive discrepancy of power between America and Russia in all aspects of the military both conventual and nuclear. Russia does not have a professional military, it’s not powerful or effective at all, however it is very deadly against civilians mostly given the size of the arsenal they inherited from the Soviet Union.

It’s basic training where you learn the very basics of being a soldier but you morons are used to only 5 days of training the Russian forces get because that’s all you need for trench warfare. NATO does combined arms mobil warfare which is very complicated and requires years of training and an Air Force that is able to gain air superiority, even with Russias massive air power they are unable to do it. It’s like expecting these new Ukrainian F-16 pilots to perform the same as an American F-16 squadron after only 9 months of training. Also you don’t do Combined Arms Mobile Warfare in an asymmetrical war, like Gaza or America in Afghanistan. If Israel decided to use combined arms warfare Gaza would look like Bakhmut. Russia is nowhere near being able to do combined arms warfare because their pilots are poorly trained and suck, Russia never developed the capability to do it. America was able to take a city of 6 million people on the other side of the world with only 120,000 men in 6 days and it took so long because it was delayed by a sandstorm.

The vehicle losses, and they have been massive, come from Orxy, ISW and are confirmed losses from satellite photographs of the battlefields, also bodies laid out on the battlefield but they estimate they only visually confirm about half to little over half the losses of destroyed vehicles.

@PaulSith You numbers are off a bit, only 143 million in Russia and millions of military age men fled. Ukraine has a population of 43 million and only 5 million of them have fled the country. Both countries still have well over a million men they could send into this war and Ukraine is about to mobilize 3-500k, they are nowhere near close to “running out” and their casualties are 60% of what Russias are with many more of their wounded surviving because they have much better field medicine & evacuation capabilities.

Russia does not rotate its troops out of Ukraine, they are there for the duration of the war or until they are killed or severely wounded with the exception of the large numbers of prison convicts who are only there for 6 months. The declassified US Intelligence document released on Dec 12th said 315,000 Russians have been killed or wounded and that was the figure in October, November was the deadliest month for Russia so the number is now estimated to be 350,000 casualties. Russia has been taking horrendous losses on their Advika offensive because of their insane fuck-all tactics of meat-wave assaults along with sending in infantry units unsupported because of armor shortages.

I get all my information & figures not from Ukraine or Russia but from highly respected international military think tanks around the world. A military think tank is where military experts, mostly retired high ranking officers & analyst, analyze all the intelligence, satellite photos, reports and inside information from their contacts in the military circles to cut through the bullshit and get as accurate as is possible during an active war.

The war in Ukraine is not a modern war, it’s a 90’s war with two countries that are incapable of doing combined arms mobile warfare. NATO led by America could wipe out every Russian position in Ukraine within and sink every ship left in the Black Sea fleet within 96 hours from the air without setting a boot on the ground and that’s a fact and the Kremlin knows it, they are not stupid. That’s the difference between NATO and Russia military capabilities and now that the Patriot system has shot down every single Kimzhal missile fired at Kiev there goes Russias nuclear weapons program because its entity based on the Kinzhal missile.

@Grunfffff It wasn’t even a war, in order for a conflict to be considered officially as a “war” there has to be at least 1,000 soldiers on each side killed. What’s going on in Gaza right now is not a war, although the IDF has killed many thousands of Hamas fighters only 502 Israelis had died and it won’t get anywhere close to a thousand as it’s almost over. Israel may have officially declared war on Hamas but the current conflict in Gaza is not a war.
