Because it was a Russian killing ground and still is, they took some rubble but are now getting encircled which sucked in all the best Russian troops & reserves - think it might be a trap? Bakhmut is not a strategic town it’s a symbolic town, it has crossroads and is the gateway for the rest of Donesk but do you really think Russia is going to take the other two remaining cities in Donesk that are much larger and much more more defended than Bakhmut?

@duanehirini2078 - Russia was desperate for a symbolic victory after they were stopped dead in their tracks by HIMARS last July while Ukraine retook one major city after another so they chose the 56th largest city because it was on their border and had direct rail service into Russia. 11 months, 70k+ casualties and a massive loss of military equipment but they captured the rubble but are getting slowly encircled and had to bring in the last of their reserves all pinned down in one area where they can be easily destroyed. The idiots have stepped in a trap and don’t even realize it yet.

⁠ @0-B1 - It’s true, the average kill ratio for Ukraine was 1:5 according to British & US intelligence, the ISW & Rand. Wagner has been decimated, there are not enough of them left to be used on any kind of a offensive and they have been cut off from prison convict cannon fodder who were forced to fight at gunpoint.

Russia still has to fight trench warfare like it was WWI in the 21st Century Lol! America and the West does Combined Arms mobile warfare son, if NATO got directly involved in Ukraine every single Russian military position in Ukraine and every Russian ship in the Black Sea fleet would be sunk within 96 hours from the air without setting a boot in Ukraine. That’s not boasting or speculation that’s the difference of firepower & capability between Russia and the West, Russia has neither a modern military or a professional military, they have a bunch of 50 year old drunks & prison convicts with two weeks of training at best and you think they could take on America who’s annual military budget is larger than Russias entire GDP Lol.

11 months for Russia to capture the rubble of what was once the 56th largest city in Ukraine on their own border while retreating on the flanks & slowly getting encircled and this is a cause for celebration? Let’s not forget that at the same time Russia was trying to take the small town of Bakhmut UAF managed to liberate the largest cities in Ukraine like Kiev, Kharkiv, Kherson, Izyum, Kupiansk, Balakliia and many others. Bakhmut is slowly getting encircled, the Russian army is getting pushed back by just a couple of Ukrainian battalions forcing Russia to send in both its best troops and the last of its reserves, you don’t see how they are being played, a very likely trap where a couple of those newly formed Ukrainian mechanized regiments couldn’t route all these Russian troops?

It’s staggering, Russia took more casualties than the entire pre-war population of Bakhmut for a purely symbolic city, haven’t seen anything this stupid since Hitler tried to take Stalingrad just because of its name. 100,000 casualties for a meaningless city, is that just so Russia Lol!

@Warren_Peace - I’m afraid it’s a lot worse than that, today at the G7 conference in Hiroshima President Biden told reporters that over 100,000 Russians were killed, wounded & captured in Bakhmut. Over 100k dead & wounded Russians just to take a purely symbolic 56th largest city in Ukraine in only 11 months 🤣

@Warren_Peace - It wasn’t 70,000 casualties, Biden told reporters at the G7 meeting in Hiroshima a few hours ago that Russia took over 100,000 dead & wounded in Bakhmut and its not a purely Wagner operation, the northern & southern flanks were held by Russian Amy, you saw some of them fleeing the battlefield as Ukrainians shot them in the back 5 days ago during Ukraines little offensive. It could be a trap for Russia or if could have been just to secure the withdrawal from Bakhmut but it’s still going on so it appears they are trying to encircle. Russia sent in its best troops and its reserves to reinforce the flanks in Bakhmut after the other Russian units fled the battlefield, I believe it was Russias 103rd mechanized who ran and had to be replaced.

@nyali2 - How did they take the city? Um UAF pulled out, that’s how. Numbers come from US intelligence who has satellites parked over the area and numerous high ranking spies in the Kremlin, Russian military & Wagner. 100,000 dead & wounded. Of course you can run over to the Russian MoD page and read about how they killed 300,000 Ukrainians while only losing 7,000, if you can trust what the Russian MoD & Kremlin tell you who can you trust, they have a long record of journalistic excellence that goes back over 100 years.
