  1.  @desoliver9712  Capital punishment here in the U.S. varies by state, so it isn't a sentencing option in all 50 states. Moreover, inmates who do get sentenced to death usually end up languishing on death row dying of natural causes as the result of multiple stays of executions petitioned by counsel. It's a protracted process. And this idea that we're quick to dole out the death penalty is not based on facts. There were many high profile organized crime convicts who were responsible for the deaths of 30 to 100 people, including ordinary non organized crime victims killed in the most sadistic and cruel ways, who ended up rotting in jail as the result of a life sentence.

  2. If you're referring to skin, prostate, colon, and breast cancer. There's no effective screening for other cancers (pancreas, gastric, brain, etc) that are unfortunately on an upward trajectory. Also, not all cancers that fall under screening guidelines are caught in the early stage during checkups. Your bad habits may kill you but your good habits are not always going to save you.

  3.  @mstrmren  It has everything to do with your comment; perhaps you need to work on comprehensive reading skills. As far as my "ideas about Europe" are concerned, I've been there many times, have lots of extended family in Europe, speak four languages, but I don't wear those fruity men's Capri shorts with a satchel man-bag draped diagonally across my chest when vacationing, so perhaps you're onto something.

  6. @mstrmren  We're just more transparent and leery of our government institutions, hence our desire to want to witness the process. Europeans are too trusting and believe that the government always knows best, even if it means working for the tax man for the first six months of every calendar year.
