@larryhampton7587 your kids are not an investment or your insurance policy....something to think about.

100% I posted something similar on this thread. The issue with familial relationships is that family members are often manipulated and controlled with FOG tactics (Fear, Obligation, Guilt) because "we're family," like the mother who verbally abuses her kids and tells them to suck it up because she's the mom, which supposedly allows her to operate with impunity by default.

So, that story line falls in the "lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency for me" category. It sounds like your mom has impulse control issues, and her marriages have probably been mostly transactional. Not your problem. Tell your mother to move along...nothing to see here. See ya.

What you're leaving out is this idea that family dynamics by default should be different from interpersonal relationships with acquaintance/friend dynamics. What I mean by that is that we're forced to have relationships, toxic or not, with people with whom we would never associate with because "we're family." This is unnatural because you don't have an escape option like with friends you no longer get along with. Also, I've seen a lot of protracted manipulation tactics coming into play by using the family obligation argument, both from the children and parents. This creates a lot of resentment over time that often turns acrimonious when it comes time to divide assets, as in "I deserve a bigger piece of the pie having to endure more BS than you." We all live in our own reality.

To put it in perspective, LinkedIn is a microcosm of what she's talking about. Everybody humble-brags about their hard work, accomplishments, and how fulfilled they feel living in the corporate cesspool, but in reality they're all miserable and "faking it." It's like life...everybody's participating and pretending to be happy. It's all an act because we are shamed into living a happy and meaningful life.

@bettyir4302 oh really? Parents decided to have sex and thereby waking kids up from a peaceful slumber of nothingness into a world of misery and obligations. When you have kids you're SUPPOSED to wipe their butt's, feed them, and educate them. You can't take credit for it. That's like me saying that I'm special because I pay my electric bill. 😅😅
