This is pretty much spot on. I applied for a decent paying tech/software sales job (90K:-130K) and managed to score an interview as the result of a high level connection I have within that company. The internal recruiter took her time responding to my email, and when we finally set up the call the first thing she mentioned was that they're always looking for high level business development reps. In other words, the job is always posted. She went through the motions and was actually very engaging, but I knew it was a dead-end attempt on my part. There was no imminent need for filling the role I applied for. I received an email three weeks later that the company has decided to blah..blah..blah.

This is 100% spot on! I've always worked 100% remote as an outside sales representative, but that changed when I switched jobs three years ago. The new role was initially mostly remote with some hybrid weeks here and there, so all good there. However, about six months ago everything made a 180 turn with newly mandated in-office schedules, and it all coincided with a new manager who was obsessed with micromanagement and making employees do kindergarten-like activities (meaningless spreadsheet projects, mandatory "fun" initiatives, pretending we're all a big "family", etc). This was obviously spearheaded to justify the manager's job, and I was having serious issues keeping a straight face during meetings. It was farcical.

@aluisious I'm on a six month hiatus. Put two and two together 😆😆 I've got $$$$ in the bank and nobody's b*tch. Live free or die.

The upside about working for a large company is that it's easier to hide because you're just a small fish in a big pond. I worked for a small IT company that paid really well, but the owner decided to drink the culture Koolaid and blueprint. He became obsessed with working in-office, fancy coffee machines, arcade games, and other stupid $hit in order to build a (fake) culture. It was so bad that he once rented a large Airbnb for everyone to stay in during a five day conference. Talk about cringe. When you need some privacy after an all day conference you see six of your coworkers milling around the living room TV.

My coworker and I used to purposely unleash the most noxious ass-rip methane bombs right after dinner during crowded semiannual "mandatory fun "events. There was nowhere to run or hide in an enclosed ballroom with a couple of thousand employees.

And that applies to most individuals with IinkedIn accounts. LinkedIn reminds me of online dating sites where when you first meet someone you are talking to their marketing agent instead of the real person. Everyone is trying to sell themselves by adding meaningless fluff and activity related content to their profile. Moreover, 90% of people who are on LinkedIn "liking" posts are doing it because they think it's expected of them by either their employer or potential clients. Think of LinkedIn as Sunday church attendance of days gone by. Nobody really wants to go to church but they're doing it because it's expected of them.
