Friends of mine who live in the Toronto area are trying to get the hell out of Canada because, according to them, the Canadian healthcare system is on life support and the cost of living is unbearable. Finding a primary care physician is a baffling ordeal and there is a major housing shortage. Real estate prices here in the US have experienced a meteoric rise as well, but rent prices have leveled off. We couldn't find any takers for our three bedroom rental property last year because there's more than enough space to choose from. As far as healthcare is concerned, everything runs like a train here. My colonoscopy screening appointment was a month out (zero cost for preventative screening, never saw a bill), scheduling an appointment with my PCP is usually a week out. And there are so many imaging centers in my zip code, your dog can probably get an MRI tomorrow whereas in Canada the wait and referral process takes a lot longer. Moreover, I don't need a referral from my PCP for anything with my PPO plan. I just access my Florida Blue portal online and begin the doctor shopping process. I had an annoying ear wax issue last year, so I called an ENT and I was in the next day. WE don't have a supply issue here, that's for sure.
