  23.  @leonardfeder5115  The economy was very successful from the Chicago Boy's liberalisations, but that ultimately gave the people a sense of individualism which caused Pinochet's deposition in 1990. Here is the problem with the Gulf Oil States today: since they have made lots of money off oil, they can afford to give their citizens cushy jobs (I think Saudi Arabians work 1 hour a day) and then, as you said have migrant workers do the unpleasant stuff. Trouble is, this is reliant on trade with the USA, which is now actually a petroleum exporter. Not a good development for the Arabs. The UAE might be able to survive on tourism, but I wouldn't consider going on a humid as hell country where there are prostitutes everywhere, where I could get whipped for drinking but I can get enslaved under jihad laws.
