mainly because there was little of it

@patrickdalton2424 by means of the people there engaging mostly in agriculture

@patrickdalton2424 Farming with tools which have been around since the Bronze Age was still extremely laborious for, compared to industrialisation, very little output whether you were working for a lord or yourself. I agree that there was many things the British State did to hinder Ireland, but these interferences had been ongoing since the time of Henry VIII. What industrialisation did was make it apparent how the previous methods of agriculture were inefficient, and eventually Ireland did move away from this sort of economy to the predominantly service based economy it is today.

@patrickdalton2424 And it is also possible to survive for a long time with a terminal illness. This does not mean that this is a good way to live.

@patrickdalton2424 In comparison to the standard of living we have now due to mass production and mechanisation and specialisation, it is markedly worse

@patrickdalton2424 We will always have those things because the default of existence is dead, inanimate matter. So the question is, how much can it be reduced? And it seems that, given 2.5 billion people are overweight and 390 million people are underweight, that industrialisation is the correct means to do this. Hm, each to their own. Personally I think my life would be worsened if I wasn't allowed to wear buttons, go to school after 13, or drive a car.

@patrickdalton2424 Eh, kinda missed my point that we have an abundance of food, such that the greatest struggle many people face today to not face an early grave is abstaining from eating. Food isn't a major concern due to industrialisation, and industrialisation isn't mutually exclusive with having a family. And again, you can live without a car in the same way you can live with a terminal illness.

@patrickdalton2424 Clearly they haven't done that bad of a job if about 3% of the worlds population is underweight whereas 25% of the world's population are able to choose to eat so much that they are overweight. There hasn't always been an abundance of food, that is why it was very very very bad if there was a drought, locusts, or blight in your area before we could mass produce and import food
1
@patrickdalton2424 Clearly the Hegelian centrally planned state which caused that famine aren't the one's responsible for reducing undernourishment to 3%. We see that where private property rights were respected were where the men responsible for reducing the undernourishment rates originated from and could do their work.

Well, if you think that injuring some people completely excludes you from having any motivation for general welfare of the people, allow me to introduce you to a group of people called "utilitarians".
