Gun rights are fucked. You have Donald "I Like Taking The Guns Early" Trump on one side, Joseph "I think assault weapon is a legitimate term" Biden on another.

Hence why poor people in California?

"The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence. " - Article IV, Section 4, US Constitution.

@clements9891 Odd. A democracy is a government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, a republic as the founder knew it as, was a state in which the executive and legislative branches of government are completely separate.

@sandshark2 Then I guess whoever wrote the OED is stupid as well. https://www.lexico.com/definition/democracy (I will give you I did omit part of the definition though)

@sandshark2 Will read. Anyway, my main point was that the founders thought a republic was a system where the executive branch and legislature were completely seperate.
1
@sandshark2 Still mostly separate. Congress can still decide what to do with that information and a bill can still get passed if it can get a 2/3rds majority. Most of the checks for the president come from the Congress to make sure the office isn't an elected Tsar, and most of the checks for the Congress comes from itself.

@sandshark2 You are right. Total separation has next to nothing to do with a legislature having two chambers. Firstly, the constitution says that America is a republic, and is a republic as the founders understood it, being a state with a separate executive and legislative branches. Secondly, many offices are undemocratically elected, such as the president, supreme court judges, and originally, senators.

@sandshark2 I know there is a compact to essentially make the electoral college redundant, but as of yet, it hasn't been put into effect.
