I see no compelling reason to suspect that, since we =KNOW= where these fables originated from, they were misunderstandings of real comments or fabrications by falsifiers to sell copy, then welcomed by an audience that realized it couldn't understanding the reality of the actual events and preferred an imaginary scenario where =THEY= were he smarter, braver witnesses and the actual people who performed these astounding deeds were falsifiers and pretenders.
