  2. Exhaust velocity is specific impulse times 'g' [9.8 meters/sec/sec] and typical 3rd stage Isp runs 250 to 350 sec, so that averages 3000 m/sec with orbital velocity 8000 m/sec. So the particulates quickly drop back into the atmosphere.
