I had seen an interview with a Soviet cosmonaut who had visited Texas Instruments, and was astonished at their latest calculator. What especially floored him was: when he expressed his admiration, his host gave him one. Top priority industries and ministries would wait at least two years before getting comparable computing power... and here he was getting a TI calculator for free as a good will gesture!
