Who cares? Trump, at his advanced age, might keel over before the nomination. His dementia started even before his inaugural in Jan 2017 / biggliest of all time. If his lateral / Project 2025 / hasn't struck you: take a closer look. My family lived under Nazi occupation, and damed if I let it happen again.

@user-oi8cj9gc4o No, you don't. It is perfectly possible to live your life without an ID. Trump had said that you need an ID to shop for groceries - false. Granted you might be unable to maintain YOUR lifestyle without an ID - but other people have other lives. The fact that there ate people who don't have an ID and never had one, disproves your assertion. Recently a show on PBS had featured an innocent man who was jailed for decades and finally released - without ID, and he can't get one because of bureaucratic inertia. Should he also be denied the right to vote?

@samdherring It can be an issue. "The fee is small" - but if you're poor, even a small fee can be significant. If you can't even afford food, a "small fee: can be prohibitive. Bear in mind also that not all citizens have the mobility and savvy you have which will let them navigate the processes to obtain an ID.

The Brennan Center for Justice had analyzed the matter and their conclusion is: "The report reviewed elections that had been meticulously studied for voter fraud, and found incident rates between 0.0003 percent and 0.0025 percent." ...which stands to reason. The penalties for voter impersonation are severe, whereas the potential gains from doing so successfully are trivial.

Hence, the incidence of such fraud is beyond negligible. A retail conspiracy to carry out such voter fraud sufficient to sway an election is utterly improbable.

@user-oi8cj9gc4o You express a false analogy. Murder occurs - but most often as a consequence of powerful issues which drive the human psyche. Murders often happen in the heat of the moment - but very few will vote in the heat of the moment. If you get caught impersonating a voter, you will do hard time. Because our system is set up that you vote in your precinct, the odds that someone from your neighborhood will identify you as fraudulent are not insignificant.

@ericking9547 Monetary cost is only part of the mix; there also is inconvenience. DMVs are typically closed on the weekends - which means that someone who already is struggling to survive on minimum wage, would have to sacrifice vital wage hours just to wait around to get an ID. There are citizens among the Navajo who live an hour's drive from the nearest post office - let alone from the nearest DMV.. Applying for an ID might be inconvenient for you and me - but immensely costly for others among our People.
