  1. At a party in Paris, a few of us discussed philosophy in mixed romance languages. Each spoke in Spanish, Portuguese, or Italian... and we all understood one another. We did not use French because it diverges more from these three, especially when spoken. On rare occasions, one of us had to paraphrase or choose a synonym, but otherwise the conversation flowed freely.
