I'm not an anti-gun zealot, and I do find a calming release from firing a clip. I'm pretty good, BTW. In the earliest days of our Republic, there was intense distrust of maintaining a large standing army, then viewed as the plaything of kings. The alternative was to promote the ability to muster patriots. I'm not "anti-gun" (except where I live,) but it would be best if we fully understood the depth and background of the 2nd Amendment.

Then when they assume the levers of power, they find out that they can't: for budgetary, present legislative, procedural, or legal barriers... do what they intended to do.

  35. IMO that will not significantly help. This bout of strong inflation is mostly driven by a supply-constraint cost-push, rather than by a demand-pull, environment. Increasing prices through higher finance costs might not become the panacea we desire.

  36.  @donutdan1508  You're just pointing out something irrelevant. Anyway, Nordstream was obsolete, since it would never be used again. Germany, Denmark, and Sweden each conducted formal investigations, but arrived at no conclusion. One possibility is that the sabotage was done by Ukrainians. Only a few small sections of pipeline had been destroyed, and could be repaired - but won't be: Germany will not buy Russian gas again.

  43. This was less an inaugural address than a rah-rah speech at your typical post-election campaign HQ. At about 10:42 or so, Trump invoked a few messages of goodwill in JFK's inaugural, (I saw the vid right before this one) - and Trump fudged it.. 12:13 "but always pursue solidarity".... well, that's a load of BS from the most divisive President in living memory... although... 12:00 "the Bible tells us how good and pleasant it is when God's own people live together in unity." Why specify.. "God's own people"? Isn't that just a dog-whistle call for divisive bigotry along divine lines of excrement? He could have just said: "God's children", or something less exclusionary. Trump's speech refrained many pattern elements of Kennedy's inaugural, but fell flat. Trump is no JFK.

Any fair economist would tell you that Trump's economic policies were not a total failure, but some were just plain stupid: he slapped heavy duties on foreign suppliers of steel and aluminum, even if they were not in contravention of WTO anti-dumping rules What then happened? Steel mills got some extra business, but the buyers of steel products who made intermediate products got savaged by new relatively cheaper foreign suppliers of steel-based intermediates. There was a net loss of American jobs. Trump did not stop carnage: he WAS carnage.

One might wonder why an eastward-looking Ukrainian government might continue to accept training by Western advisors. At the outbreak of Russia's Special Military Humiliation, there were ZERO American combat troops in Ukraine. As for "arming Ukraine": at the outset of Russia's full-scale aggression, NATO had supplied to Ukraine a full sum ZERO of: armoured vehicles, fighter jets, short/long-range missiles, MANPADs, anti-tank infantry systems, HIMARS, mobile artillery, Patriot batteries... etc. None of the above weaponry had been provided to Ukraine for its defense until after Feb 24, 2022. Why must you lie?
